Repairs Begin on Popular Indiana Reservoir’s Dam

MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) _ Crews are working to make permanent repairs to a northern Indiana reservoir's dam following a malfunction that caused a more than 2-foot drop in the popular lake's water levels.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. spokesman Nick Meyer says the water drop occurred when a floodgate on Lake Shafer's Norway Dam got stuck after a roller track that allows the floodgate to move malfunctioned.

He tells WLFI-TV  that crews temporarily closed the floodgate over the weekend, allowing water levels to return to normal on the lake after last week's drop.

Meyer says crews are erecting scaffolding along the floodgate and work began Tuesday to make permanent repairs. He says those repairs should be complete by the end of the week.
