FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Fort Wayne residents will have another chance to weigh in on the proposed 24/7 low-barrier homeless resource center downtown.

A newly formed group called Safe Schools Fort Wayne Alliance is organizing opposition to the planned location at 333 East Washington Boulevard and will gather signatures Saturday near the Barr Street Market.

Members, including nearby churches, businesses, and community leaders, say they support helping the homeless but believe a different site would be more appropriate.

21 Alive News says concerns focus on student safety, downtown events and nearby schools.

The alliance is urging residents to contact city council members ahead of an upcoming vote on the proposal.
