Sand Dune Survivor Honored During Parade

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP): The Illinois boy who survived being buried under 11 feet of sand last summer at the Indiana Dunes was cheered while riding as a parade grand marshal.

The trailer carrying Nathan Woessner of Sterling, Illinois, had banners celebrating the miracle at Mount Baldy during Saturday's Michigan City Summerfest parade. Nathan was rescued after being buried for more than three hours on July 12, 2013, at the Mount Baldy dune near Michigan City.

Nathan rode in the parade with his parents, three siblings and several emergency workers who helped save him.

Greg Woessner tells The Times of Munster that his now-7-year-old son is 100 percent and “as ornery as ever.”

Faith Woessner tells WLS-TV it has been a good year in which her son finished first grade.
