Soberity Campaign Kicks Off

More than 250 law enforcement agencies across Indiana are launching a massive effort to crackdown on drinking and driving. They‘re calling it “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says it‘s a 16-day effort that kicks off on roadways across the state Friday and runs through March 24th. Executive Director Mary Allen says the crackdown is important given high alcohol consumption and social activities during March in Indiana. The month of March is synonymous with celebrating Indiana basketball and St. Patrick‘s Day holiday fun. The ICJI says there were 6,264 alcohol-related crashes with 97 fatalities in Indiana last year. During March, the figure was 524 alcohol-related collisions with six fatalities. On St. Patrick‘s Day of last year, there were 33 alcohol-related crashes across the state.
