Some INDOT Snow Plows to be Equipped with 2nd Plow

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Some Indiana snowplows are being equipped with a tool called tow plows that highway officials say allow one driver to clear two lanes of highway at once.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Tuesday the devices will be used on Interstate 74 between Indianapolis and Greensburg, on Interstate 469 and U.S. 24 northeast of Fort Wayne, the new U.S. 31 freeway near Kokomo, the Indiana 67 Muncie bypass and U.S. 24 and Indiana 25 near Logansport.

INDOT says the plows already are being used in northeast Indiana and 22 other states. The tow plow and material spreader are pulled behind and to the side of a standard INDOT plow truck, and can be deployed or retracted using in-cab controls.
