South Bend car hits apartment after driver shot to death

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): South Bend police are investigating the death of a driver whose car crashed into an apartment building as a homicide.

The crash occurred early Sunday. Police say it appeared the driver had been shot and are searching for a 21-year-old suspect.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit Commander Tim Corbett tells WNDU-TV that it appears there was a confrontation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Family members living in the apartment struck by the car were not hurt.

A fire broke out at the same apartment complex several hours later, but it’s not clear the two incidents were related. No injuries were reported.
