South Bend Man Charged with Murder in Double Shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – A 49-year-old South Bend man is being held without bond after police say he shot and killed two other tenants in his apartment building.

Roy Walker is charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of residential entry in connection with the shooting. Authorities say he was naked and armed with a handgun when he forced his way into two separate units on Sunday night. They say Walker fatally shot 43-year-old Michelle Blankenship and 46-year-old Robert Duke.

Police say Duke's roommate escaped uninjured when Walker's gun failed to fire at close range.

Police say Walker eventually left the apartment building and was arrested after he crashed Blankenship's car.

Although police say it wasn't a random act, they haven't released a motive for the shooting.
