South Bend Woman Dies When Struck by Vehicle

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – A northern Indiana woman struck by a vehicle while reaching to pick up an item from the street has died.

Authorities say 33-year-old Amy Mitchell of South Bend died of her injuries at Memorial Hospital after being struck by the vehicle Saturday night.

South Bend police say Mitchell was leaving a family function and crossing a street when she dropped something, stopped to pick it and was struck.

WSBT reports family members witnessed the collision.
