INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.(WOWO)— The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana recovered more than 10 million dollars in civil and criminal debts during the 2025 fiscal year. U.S. Attorney Tom Wheeler announced the funds include seven million from civil actions and over two million in criminal restitution.
Of the recovered funds, approximately one million dollars was restored directly to victims, while the majority was distributed to local law enforcement agencies to help combat crime across the state. Wheeler highlighted that these funds not only support victims but also enhance community safety by strengthening police resources and programs.
“The work we do in collecting these debts ensures that justice is served and that our communities are safer,” Wheeler said. “Returning funds to victims and empowering local law enforcement is a top priority for our office.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office handles a broad range of civil and criminal cases, ensuring that debts, fines, and restitution orders are collected efficiently to benefit both victims and the community.
