Syracuse Man Arrested In Connection With 1975 San Diego Murder

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — A Syracuse, Indiana man has been arrested in connection with a decades-old murder that occurred in San Diego, California, in 1975.

According to investigators, the Indiana State Police, including the ISP Cold Case Unit, were contacted in 2024 by detectives with the San Diego Police Department seeking assistance with the long-unsolved case. Indiana investigators worked alongside California authorities for more than a year, ultimately identifying the suspect as Johnnie Ray Salisbury, 71, of Syracuse.

San Diego Police Department investigators traveled to Indiana this week to advance the case. Salisbury was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, when an arrest warrant was served.

Following his arrest, Salisbury was transported to the Kosciusko County Jail, where he remains held pending extradition to California to face charges related to the 1975 murder.

Authorities have not released additional details about the original case, citing the ongoing investigation.
