Syracuse Woman Scammed Online

SYRACUSE, Ind. (WOWO): A Syracuse woman was recently a victim of a potential scam and lost over $100,000.

According to officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, the woman told an officer in late June that she had wired approximately $150,000 to a man she met online, with whom she was allegedly having a romantic relationship with. The woman told police she had never met the man, but he identified himself as John Tony Hagen. However, she said, when she would send money, she would send it to a Jacob Adewale Abiola.

According to Sargent Chad Hill, both names are likely fraudulent. The woman told police she had kept receipts and other documentation regarding the amount of money sent and the report was forwarded to the Detective Division. The incident is still under investigation.
