Teen Riding ATV Dies After Hitting Tree

AUBURN, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say a 16-year-old boy has died after the all-terrain vehicle he was riding struck a tree in rural DeKalb County in northeastern Indiana.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department said in a news release that authorities responded to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday and found the teen had been thrown from the ATV. The sheriff's department says the teen wasn't wearing a helmet and was found unresponsive with severe head trauma.

According to the department, the teen was pronounced dead at a Fort Wayne hospital. His name has not been released.

The crash is being investigated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
