Terre Haute Police Fatally Shoot Man During Chase

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State Police are investigating the fatal police shooting of a man who led Terre Haute officers on a car chase and rammed their squad cars with his vehicle.

Sgt. Joe Watts says a Terre Haute police officer fatally shot the man Wednesday afternoon in a busy neighborhood in the western Indiana city near a school, churches and businesses because officers felt threatened.

The Tribune-Star reports police were trying to arrest the man on a warrant charging him with rape, criminal confinement and domestic battery

Watts says the man apparently began ramming his car into police cars and refused to obey officers' commands. An officer shot the man in the torso when he apparently made a threatening move with his hands inside his car. He was later pronounced dead.
