Terre Haute to Post Armed Officers in Its Schools

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ School officials in Terre Haute are moving ahead with plans to post police officers with full arrest powers inside all of the western Indiana city’s schools.

City officials and members of the Vigo County School Corp. announced the plans Monday to post armed officers in 12 city schools. The Tribune-Star reports that the Vigo County School Board approved the plan Monday night.

The annual cost of the measure is $353,000, with the Vigo County School Corp. paying about half of that amount.

Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing announced earlier this month that he would seek funding from the Vigo County Council to place an armed officer in all schools in the county. The council will vote on that measure in March.
