WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOWO) Tesla is recalling 173 Cybertrucks and more than 200,000 electric vehicles due to safety concerns involving wheel hardware and rearview cameras, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
Cybertruck wheel issue
The recall affects 2024-2026 model year Cybertrucks with 18-inch steel wheels. Cracking in the rotor could cause the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub, which may compromise vehicle controllability and increase the risk of a crash.
The NHTSA said that rough road conditions and cornering may strain the stud hole in the rotor, eventually causing cracks that could lead to wheel stud separation.
Tesla will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts with more durable parts at no cost to vehicle owners. The manufacturer’s recall number is SB-26-33-003, and owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
Rearview camera software issue
Separately, Tesla is recalling over 200,000 Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 vehicles because of a software issue that can temporarily render the rearview camera inoperable.
The loss of the camera image may reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of a crash. Tesla’s recall number for this issue is SB-26-00-016.
Safety record and next steps
Tesla said it is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to either of these problems. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to contact Tesla to schedule repairs and ensure their vehicles are updated with the necessary parts or software fixes.
