Top Ten Consumer Complaints for 2013

INDIANA, (WOWO): Telemarketing and do-not-call abuses were the fastest growing consumer complaints across the nation in 2013, that according to the Consumer Federation of America's latest annual survey.


CFA Consumer Protection Director Susan Grant says despite the national do-not-call list, robocalls and telephone scams continue to haunt consumers. Still, other abuses are even bigger issues. The CFA's top ten consumer complaints include:

  • Auto Sales and Repair

  • Home Improvement Issues

  • Credit and Debt

  • Retail Sales and services that require licenses

  • Utilities, Landlord and Tenant Issues

  • Home Solicitations

  • Internet Sales</p>

  • Health Products and Services

  • Sweepstakes

  • Money Scams

Grant says scams continue to be broad and far reaching and everyone is at risk. She adds that ever-increasing technology is making it easier for scammers to hide.

The CFA says industries must play larger roles in helping to combat consumer abuses. Grant says the report and consumer help are available at consumerfed dot org.
