Traffic Stop Leads To Stolen Truck



FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A traffic stop in DeKalb County led to the discovery of a stolen truck.

It was an early Friday morning traffic stop on SR 327 north of SR 205 near Garrett. After an unrelated traffic stop, Deputy Nicholas Grate noticed a possible stolen vehicle pass by his location. When the truck was confirmed stolen, the officer made a traffic stop and took the driver, Larry D. Collett III of Garrett into custody. The vehicle belonged to Knott Drainage and Excavating of Laotto.  The vehicle was reported stolen about a half hour before the 1:15 a.m. traffic stop.

Collett admitted to stealing the truck from the 1400 block of West Auburn Drive in Auburn. Police also say he was under the influence of alcohol prior to stealing the vehicle. He's charged with Auto Theft, a Level 6 felony, OWI, a Class A misdemeanor, two counts of OWI, a Class C misdemeanor, Minor Consumption, a Class C misdemeanor, and Operating A Motor Vehicle Having Never Been Licensed, a Class C misdemeanor.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says more charges could be filed against Collett.  The investigation is still under review.
