FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): If you see a lot of activity around the Air National Guard Base, don’t be alarmed.
The 122nd Fighter Wing will be participating in training exercises starting at 10 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.
The base is taking part in the Major Accident Response Exercise (MARE) along with support from the Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana State Police and the City/County Communications Center.
They say the practice will help prepare for the 2016 Fort Wayne Airshow, and to “evaluate current 122nd Fighter Wing and Fort Wayne International Airport plans, policies, and procedures for maintaining situational awareness and critical information flow in the event of a major aircraft accident during a pre-planned event.”
Part of the drill will include radio broadcasts that can be heard in or around both the base and Baer Field. All communications will be prefaced with “EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE.” In the case of a real emergency communication, the broadcast would say “REAL WORLD INPUT.”
They said any active training may cause alarm with the general public, so be aware this this just an exercise.
