Two killed in Huntington fire early Sunday morning

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP) — A woman and two children jumped from a second-story window to escape a house fire that killed two others in northeast Indiana.

The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette reports the blaze was sparked early Sunday in Huntington, a town about 20 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.

Survivors told first responders that two people were unaccounted for.

Police kicked in a rear door but the flames were too intense to enter. Firefighters could not enter the home because of its weak structure.

The body of a woman was later found on the first floor. A child was discovered on the second floor. Their identities have not been released, pending notification of family and the completion of autopsies.

Several cats and dogs also died in the blaze.

Authorities are investigating the cause.
