UPDATE: Suspect Fleeing Fort Wayne Police Falls Into River

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man trying to run from police in Fort Wayne fell into the St. Joseph River Monday morning. 

The Fort Wayne Police Department says they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the Burger King lot on Spy Run Avenue just after 6 AM. The 23-year-old suspect then ran reportedly ran out the back door of the kitchen and led police on a pursuit. 

He ended up tripping and falling into the river, but after floating about 20 feet down the river, police were able to arrest the suspect. 

The man was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Court documents say an assault rifle was found in the man's car.

The Journal Gazette reports the man's vehicle matched the description of one seen in attempted robberies at Dollar General stores and a Subway restaurant.
