Van Wert Police Seize Drugs, THC Products Targeting Minors In Major Bust

VAN WERT, Ohio. (WOWO) — Van Wert Police are urging parents and guardians to be vigilant after a major drug bust uncovered a large number of THC products they believe were being marketed toward minors. The bust followed a reported overdose at a home in the 700 block of North Washington Street, near Jubilee Park, on Sunday.

According to Police Chief Doug Weigle, officers and Van Wert EMS responded to a call about a possible overdose at the residence, where they found a young man unresponsive on the floor. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While at the scene, police observed various drugs and paraphernalia in plain view, prompting them to apply for a search warrant.

The subsequent search revealed an alarming amount of illegal items, including THC vape pens and cartridges, which authorities believe were specifically targeted toward those under the age of 18. In addition to the THC products, police seized a “significant amount” of cocaine, several rifles, ammunition, and even a flamethrower. Several other pills and substances were also found and are being tested.

According to our partners in news at 21ALIVE, officers also discovered marijuana, hash oil, and a large quantity of cash, along with valuable metals such as gold, silver, and copper bars. The total estimated value of the seized items is approximately $250,000.

“We encourage all parents and grandparents to take a close look at the packaging,” said Chief Weigle.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Van Wert Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding drug trafficking or sales in the area to contact them at 419-238-2462.
