Vanderburgh County Judge Delays Ruling on Moving Trial

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A southern Indiana judge says he will wait to rule on a request that the trial of a woman charged in the fatal stabbing of her husband be moved out of Evansville.

Attorneys for 23-year-old Megan Mecum asked for the change of venue, saying a withdrawn plea deal could be prejudicial. The Evansville Courier and Press reports Vanderburgh County Superior Judge Robert Pigman said Friday he is not convinced a jury could not be picked.

Mecum was allowed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and a drug possession charge if she testified truthfully against James Levi Mayhugh and his cousin, Hubert Mayhugh III in the death of 42-year-old Keith Vaughn. Prosecutors allege she lied while giving a sworn statement.

Her trial is set for November 18th.
