Victim Identified in Two Car Crash on State Road 1

Police have identified the man killed in a two car head-on crash that happened this morning on State Road 1, just north of the Allen/DeKalb County Line.

45-year-old Ryan Turner of Butler was killed and pronounced dead at the scene. He was riding with Melissa Mills from Fort Wayne when she collided head-on with an SUV driven by Ashley Crow of Saint Joe.

Although Turner was wearing his seatbelt at the time, his injuries were too severe. A rear seat passenger in Mills’ vehicle, 13 year old Aiyana Mills, was critically injured and was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition.

Both Melissa Mills (head injury) and Crow (internal injuries) were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital and their conditions are unknown.

Because of discrepancies in driver accounts and witness statements, Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists were called to assist in this investigation. Their findings are still pending.

State Road 1 was shut down for several hours while the crash was investigated.  The road has since opened to normal traffic flow.
