Vigo County Police Say 3 Killed When Train Hits Truck

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Police in western Indiana have identified three people who died when a train hit a pickup truck that was racing to beat it through a railroad crossing.

The Vigo County Sheriff's Department says the crash early Wednesday killed 30-year-old Brian Rickard and 24-year-old Ryan Cook, both of Terre Haute, and 20-year-old Ashlee Pugh of Dennison, Ill.

Officers say the collision ejected Rickard and Pugh from the truck and pinned them underneath the vehicle.

The crash occurred at a crossing in a rural area several miles northeast of Terre Haute.

Sheriff Greg Ewing tells WTHI-TV alcohol might have been a factor in the crash.

All three people were pronounced dead at the scene.
