Woman Arrested in Deadly Anderson Hit-and-Run

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP): Police in central Indiana say a driver has been arrested on charges of hitting a woman then driving away before she was hit by another car and died.

Anderson police say 58-year-old Ava Conley faces felony charges of failing to stop after hitting 26-year-old Keri Winningham as she walked along a city street Saturday night.

The Herald Bulletin reports Conley told investigators she was driving home from a bar when she hit Winningham. Conley told police she saw the woman get up and start limping but was afraid to stop because she had a false registration for her car.

Winningham died after being hit by another car whose driver stopped.
