SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana woman charged with neglect in the death of her newborn, whose body was found in a restaurant trash bin, faces an additional charge of feticide.

The South Bend Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1l1fxwY) the St. Joseph's Prosecutor's Office filed the additional charge against 33-year-old Purvi Patel of Granger on Wednesday. The trial is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Her attorney, Jeff Sanford, could not be reached for comment Friday because his office was closed. Patel has an unlisted telephone number.

Court documents say Patel told doctors the baby was stillborn. A probable cause affidavit says a forensic pathologist ruled the infant was born alive.

Court document allege Patel took drugs ordered from Hong Kong to try to abort the pregnancy.

Feticide carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.
