16-year-old DeKalb football player dies from injuries

DEKALB, Ind. (WOWO): A 16-year-old DeKalb football player died after a three-vehicle crash on Friday.

Lucas Oberkiser was hospitalized in critical condition after the crash on Friday. He later died from his injuries sometime early Tuesday morning.

At about 4 p.m. Friday, two DeKalb High School football players went to grab a bite to eat before Friday’s game against New Haven. The two teenagers were involved in a crash near the intersection of C.R. 19 and C.R. 40.

Derek Padilla, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Students and members of the community using twitter to express their sadness and sympathies using the hashtag #PrayForDekalb.
