FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The newest crop of Fort Wayne fire fighters are set to graduate.

A ceremony will be 6 p.m. Thursday at the Public Safety Academy for the 88th recruit class of the Fort Wayne Fire Department. The 14 new fire fighters will begin at engine houses throughout the city on Monday.

Those graduating finished an 18 week training program. They learned firefighting skills as well as how to administer emergency medical aid. Four firefighters will be staffed around the clock at each of the city’s locations.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant will pay for two years of salaries and benefits for 10 of the new firefighters.
