ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) – A consultant says two new communication towers for Madison County public safety agencies await permits from the Federal Communications Commission.

Consultant Terry Burnworth of Pyramid Architecture says construction of the two towers cannot begin until the FCC gives its approval. That process can take up to nine months.

The Herald Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/1IBkxzf ) the Anderson Board of Zoning Appeals last week approved two requests from the Madison County Commissioners for exceptions and variances to construct the two towers in the city of Anderson. When installed, the towers will provide radio coverage for 90 percent of Madison County to public safety agencies.

A new radio system, to be installed by the end of 2015, will allow all police and fire departments operating in Madison County to communicate with each other.
