INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Police say officers shot and killed a man in Indianapolis who was armed with three guns, refused orders to drop the weapons and opened fire.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Lt. Richard Riddle says officers were dispatched to a home on the city's southwest side early Monday after a report of a suicidal person.
Riddle says the officers encountered a man in his 20s armed with a rifle and two handguns. The man's mother was also inside the home, but Riddle says the man allowed her to leave.
He says officers ordered the man to drop his weapons, but he refused and made comments that were “suicidal in nature.''
Riddle says the man fired one round and multiple officers returned fire, killing him.
No one else was harmed.
The officers are on standard administrative leave.
