2nd Medic Dies from Injuries in Ambulance Crash

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A second medic has died from injuries sustained when a car collided with an ambulance at an intersection in downtown Indianapolis.

Dr. Charles Miramonti, chief of Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, announced that 22-year-old paramedic Cody Medley had died at Wishard Hospital early Sunday morning from severe injuries sustained in the crash a day earlier. The driver of the ambulance, 24-year-old Tim McCormick from the Indianapolis suburb of Greenwood, died Saturday.

Police said the ambulance was not on an emergency run when the accident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday near the Indiana Statehouse. Police said the ambulance had the right of way because it had a flashing yellow traffic signal, while the traffic signal for the car was flashing red.

Medley was originally from Scranton, Penn.
