72-year-old Fort Wayne woman dies after being pulled from pond

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 72-year-old Fort Wayne woman died after trying to rescue a boy from a pond.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Sharon Shively died early Saturday morning. Her death was ruled an accidental drowning.

At about 11 a.m. Friday, a neighbor pulled a 6-year-old boy out of a pond in the 12000 block of Carroll Creek Run. While the boy was being rescued, the neighbor spotted the woman and pulled her out.

She was hospitalized in critical condition. The boy was treated at the scene and is in good condition.
