77-Day Term for Neglect Death May Become 10 Years

LAGRANGE, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana prosecutor says a woman who served 77 days in prison for the neglect death of a 16-month-old foster child may face serving her full 10-year sentence after being arrested on drug charges. The South Bend Tribune reports that 35-year-old Christy Shaffer of Topeka was charged Tuesday with possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance. She's being held in the LaGrange County jail, about 40 miles east of South Bend.
