FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ An 84-year-old New Haven man has pleaded innocent to leaving the scene of an accident in which a Fort Wayne pedestrian was killed.

Howard Lininger entered his plea Wednesday to a charge of felony failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury or death. He was charged in the Nov. 18 death of 25-year-old Haley Nancarrow of Fort Wayne.

His attorney, Mark Paul Smith, says Lininger thought someone threw a whiskey bottle at his car, shattering the windshield. Smith says Lininger found the bottle lying in the street, but didn't see the body further back on the roadside.

Police say Nancarrow had been carrying the bottle.

Police say Lininger was arrested after he reported the car damage to his car to his grandson, a police officer.
