Fort Wayne man killed in crash identified by Allen County Coroner’s Office

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – A Fort Wayne man has been identified as the person killed in a crash Friday night on West Jefferson Boulevard.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Monday as 45-year-old Joseph Matthew Benton.

Police say the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of West Jefferson Boulevard.

Police confirmed Benton crashed into a parked excavator, causing several blunt-force injuries. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

The crash shut down part of the southwest side corridor for several hours Friday night.

The investigation remains ongoing.
