Water Main Break Amid Cold Closes Jay County Courthouse

PORTLAND, Ind. (AP): A water main break during another deep-freeze morning has shut down an eastern Indiana county's courthouse.

Jay County officials say its courthouse will be closed Monday because of the break near the building in downtown Portland.

That's the latest among numerous water main breaks that communities across the state have had in recent weeks as temperatures have fallen below zero many times.

Several school districts around Indiana delayed their openings Monday with the new round of extreme cold.

The National Weather Service reports temperatures of 7 below zero in Lafayette and 5 below in Fort Wayne. Temperatures also hovered around zero in Indianapolis, South Bend and Muncie.
