City Council Rejects Legacy-Funded Account

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A proposal to borrow from Fort Wayne's Legacy fund for emergency projects was shot down by city council Tuesday night.

The measure was rejected 7-2, mostly on party lines. Democrats Geoff Paddock and John Shoaff supported the idea.

City Controller Pat Roller wanted to set up an emergency account, funded by a no-interest loan of Legacy money – up to five million dollars. She maintained it would only be tapped in a last resort.

Council has maintained the fund is truly for long-term project impact the community and not for traditional spending.
