UPDATE: Wawasee High School on Lockdown for Remainder of School Day

WAWASEE, Ind. (WOWO): According to the Syracuse Police Department, Wawasee High School is expected to stay locked down until the end of the school day as a precaution. At that point, school officials plan on releasing students as regularly scheduled.

A threat was made against the school Friday morning and the Syracuse Police Department is investigating, but they would not specify the nature of the threat.

Wawasee High School Superintendent Mike Schmidt has released the following statement:

“All students and staff are safe and secured as we continue to lockdown the high school. Multiple police are on site to ensure the safety of all on campus. Students will not be released from the building until the lockdown is completed. There was a threat from outside the campus and that is continuing to be addressed. We are continuing to educate our students as they attend classes.Thank you for your patience and understanding as we keep each and every individual safe.”
