FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Senate President Pro Tem David Long is defending a comment he made regarding State Superintendent Glenda Ritz.

On Friday January 23rd, Fort Wayne Senate President Pro Tem David Long put down State Superintendent Glenda Ritz with quote, 'Now in all fairness, Superintendent Ritz was a librarian.'

At a meeting with the press, he later handed out a column from the Lafayette Journal and Courier that mentions the snarky comment.

Lawmakers are looking to change the rules to begin selecting their chairman.

Long handed out a full apology that said he was sorry if his comments were misconstrued. The Journal Gazette reports Long also sent a letter to Ritz yesterday, saying didn't mean to criticize Ritz as being unable to do the job.
