Owners, Police Remain At Odds Over Embattled Fort Wayne Bar

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): At a Monday hearing with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, a judge heard from the owners of the Sports and Spirits bar on East Wayne and South Anthony as well as Fort Wayne Police.

The owners of Sports and Spirits are trying to renew their liquor license. Police runs at the bar have decreased in the last six months, though there was still an arrest. The majority owner of the bar, Burke Baughman, also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge related to evidence of marijuana use at the bar in August.

The Journal-Gazette says police remain concerned that problems will return when the weather gets warmer. Baughman says a lot of the problems at the bar have subsided because the bar closes at midnight now. He says a lot of the previous problems happened between 1 AM and 3 AM.

A decision on renewing the liquor license for Sports and Spirits bar will come at a later date.
