Local Hospitals Could See Property Tax Exemptions

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  A state budget bill will help five local hospitals, including three hospitals in Allen County, save millions of dollars in property taxes.

According to the Journal Gazette, a new provision in the bill would give all for-profit hospitals in Indiana a 50 percent property tax exemption, starting in 2017.

The five for-profit hospitals in the area include Lutheran Health Network – Lutheran, St. Joseph, Dupont, Kosciusko Community and Bluffton Memorial.

The Journal Gazette reports Parkview Health operates in a manner where their hospitals are granted tax-exempt status in return for the community benefit they are expected to provide.

Just yesterday, an amendment was filed to remove the language. However, that motion was declined.
