Man Killed, Woman Injured in Garbage Truck Compactor

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Western Indiana police say a Connecticut man died and his girlfriend was seriously injured when they were compacted inside a garbage truck after spending the night in a trash bin.

The body of 46-year-old Franschon Barr was found early Thursday in the garbage truck near a Terre Haute hotel after police received a 911 call about people trapped in the truck’s cargo area.

An autopsy found that Barr died from compression asphyxia.

A woman who was also dumped inside the truck suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.

Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse tells The Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/ZqNQfK ) officers learned Barr and the woman had taken shelter from the rain inside a trash bin and were sleeping inside it when it was emptied.
