Shooting Wounds 4 in Indianapolis Nightclub Area

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Police say a man told officers he was acting in self-defense when he fired the shots that wounded four people outside a nightclub in the Indianapolis entertainment area of Broad Ripple.

Police spokesman Officer Michael Hewitt says the suspected shooter is in custody after the gunfire about 3 a.m. Friday outside the Vogue nightclub on the city's north side. He says none of the injuries appeared life threatening.

The Indianapolis Star reports a police report says a man flagged down officers and told them he pulled out a gun after a group of men attacked him and a friend.

Hewitt says detectives are investigating that account.

Cody Cable tells WTHR-TV he was working at a nearby sandwich shop when he heard at least eight to ten shots.
