RUSHVILLE, Ind. (AP): Strong thunderstorm winds caused havoc in an eastern Indiana city, knocking down numerous trees and causing widespread power outages.

Several isolated thunderstorms dumped rain Tuesday evening across Indiana's midsection, with damage reported in the Rushville area. Some large trees fell onto houses in the community about 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Rushville Police Chief Craig Tucker says downed trees closed several streets and broke some fire hydrants.

WRTV reports some 3,200 homes and businesses in Rush and Shelby counties lost electricity from the storm. Duke Energy reports nearly all power was restored by early Wednesday.

No injuries were immediately reported.
