NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP): The owner of a home day care center in Carmel has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the January death of a 5-month-old boy.

The Indianapolis Star reports Stacey Cox also was found guilty late Friday night of misdemeanor deception and operating a child care home without a license. She was found not guilty of felony counts of reckless homicide and neglect of a dependent, and misdemeanor unlicensed practice of nursing.

Cox was charged after Conor Tilson was found unresponsive at her home day care. Deputy Prosecutor Matt Kestian said in closing arguments that Conor suffocated because Cox left him in a broken playpen with an oversized blanket.

Defense attorney Steve Stoesz said his Cox didn’t know the playpen was broken.
