SELLERSBURG, Ind. (AP) – Leaders of a recovery group formed after last year's deadly wave of tornadoes in southern Indiana say nearly 13,000 people volunteered their time to help residents rebuild.
 
The organization March2Recovery recognized many of those volunteers during a celebration event Thursday at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg.
 
Organizers say some $3.2 million has been spent through the group since the March 2012 storms that killed 14 people as they hit Henryville, Marysville and other rural communities in the area about 20 miles north of Louisville, Ky.
 
Volunteer center manager Lee Overpeck tells the News and Tribune that many local residents helped but many also traveled long distances. He says one couple drove about 100 miles to Henryville every two weeks with a trailer full of lumber for rebuilding.
