Homeless Vets Program Named for Ex-Ind. Governor

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): A program in South Bend that helps homeless military veterans get job training and find homes is being named for former Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan. Kernan joined in a ceremony Tuesday at the Life Treatment Centers as it named its veterans program “Kernan's Heroes.” Kernan spent 11 months as a prisoner of war after his Navy reconnaissance plane was shot down over North Vietnam in 1972.
