INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Some of Indiana's emergency medical technicians face a looming deadline to move to a higher certification level or risk dropping to a lower rank.



The deadline for current Basic-Advanced EMTs to enroll in a transition course for the advanced level is June 30.



State lawmakers adopted the new certification in 2012 to replace the state's Basic-Advanced level. Any Basic-Advanced EMT who does not enroll in the course by the June deadline will drop down to the lowest EMT rank.



Responders who pass the course will be able to give certain medications, including a drug to treat heroin and certain prescription drug overdoses.
