Fishers Lake Closes Because of Bacteria

FISHERS, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana lake where more than 800 people swim, fish and enjoy water sports every week is closed because of unsafe levels of bacteria.

Fishers spokeswoman Autumn Gasior tells The Indianapolis Star the bacteria, a form of E. coli, was likely caused by Canada goose droppings in and around the lake. She says geese migrated to the beach after Saxony switched to a weekend only schedule.

She says the lake is expected to reopen August 23rd after a series of water quality tests.
