COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) _ The leader of the Young Marines youth program in Columbus has been named National Adult Volunteer of the Year by the organization.

The Republic reports (http://bit.ly/1tzDMp6) that Scott Riley was honored recently at the organization's annual Adult Leaders Conference in Washington.

Riley was an active duty Marine from 1992 to 1999 and has volunteered with the local program since 2003.

The Young Marines is formed into six divisions across the United States. Each unit is led by adult volunteers, some of whom have had careers in the military. The anti-drug youth program has about 3,000 active and registered adult volunteers.

Riley wants to move the Columbus unit's drill location to nearby Camp Atterbury. He also plans to start a marksmanship team.
